If you get a dialog box like this one below, click Always to boot to their custom launcher. Once your Android TV box is powered up, the next step in the setup is to connect it to the Internet. Then it can download any updates that may be available.
In general, Ethernet will give you a faster, more consistent speed. Connecting via Ethernet is by far the easier option. Ethernet is rated in different categories Cat 5, Cat 6, etc. This is because big businesses that connect hundreds of computers to the same network will need cables with higher throughput. In your house, Cat 5 is perfectly fine.
There is one exception to that rule however. Personally, I love the ultra-thin flat ribbon Ethernet cables. In my house, there are some places where I have to run the cables along the walls to hide them. The flat cables make that so much easier. It may be labeled RJ, Ethernet or have an icon like you see in the image below. The other end of the plug will go directly into your router, as you see in this next image, or into the Ethernet port in your wall if your house is hardwired.
Some initial setup routines will walk you through how to connect your Android TV box to your Wi-Fi network. This is slightly different on each device.
In this case, you can see that there is No Network Connected. That means we have to manually connect to the network. From here, the menu will change to show any wireless networks within range on the upper half of the screen.
This process is the same whether you connected through Wi-Fi or Ethernet. Step 9: Go back to the Settings menu. In most cases, the default language will be set to English US.

Depending on how you use your device, this may be a good idea. This is going to be slightly different for each manufacturer. Step If you find an OTA update app on your device, follow the on-screen prompts to update your device.
You may have to repeat the process several times if there are multiple updates available. Step If you do not find an OTA update app on your device, you may need to do a little digging. Most apps are designed for tablets or phones. Installing the Aptoide TV app store is a little more involved than we can get into here. I created a handy step-by-step guide to walk you through the process.
It only takes about five minutes to install. At this point, there are some differences between a streaming media player or television running the official Android TV and an Android TV box running the stock operating system. Several manufacturers bundle custom launchers in with their TV boxes in order to make it a better experience. I go into a lot more depth in this article if you still have some questions.
The official Android TV launcher will look like this, with very little differences between manufacturers. At the top of the screen will be a search field for Google Assistant on the left-hand side of the screen. By contrast, there are dozens of different launchers available for Android to give it a different look and feel. Most launchers, as you can see in this image, have large icons that take up the majority of the screen. These are nine different Android launchers from various manufacturers.
As you can see, there is a lot of variability in how they look. But the common thread is that each has large icons for Movies or Kodi or Music or Games that will pull up apps that fall into that category. This guide should help you quickly go through the process of programming your TV box so you can get up and running fast.

Tim Wells got his first computer at the age of ten and hasn't stopped tinkering ever since. Click the large, round button in the center to select something. Some devices have an automatic setup process when you first start the device.
If your device does not have an automatic setup process, select Settings and then select Language and then select the language of your choice. Select your wireless network. The Android TV box can only connect to a network wirelessly. Make sure you're in range of your wireless network. Select Wi-fi and then select your wireless network. Enter your wireless network's password. Use your remote and the on-screen keyboard to enter your wireless network's password. Wait for the Android TV box to update. If there is an update available, the Android TV box will download and install it automatically, which may take several minutes to complete.
The Android TV box will restart after the update has installed. If your Android TV box doesn't update automatically, select the Settings menu, and then select About.
Log into your Google account. You'll need to enter your Google account information in order to finish the setup. Any purchases made on the Android TV will be associated with your Google account. There are two ways to log in: Select "Use your password" and then enter your Google account email and password using the on-screen keyboard. Select "Use your phone or laptop" and then open a web browser on a phone or laptop on the same network.
If you're not logged in with your Google account on your phone or laptop, you'll be prompted to do so first.
Part 3. Scroll through the Home menu with your remote. The Home menu is organized in rows of content. The first row shows recommendations. Your apps appear in the second row, and your games appear in the third row. You'll find the Settings menu in the bottom row.
Press the microphone button on your remote to voice search. Speak directly into the remote to perform a voice search.
You can search for TV shows, movies, music, apps, basic information like weather, and Google Images. If your remote doesn't have a microphone button, you can click the microphone button at the top of the screen and then use the on-screen keyboard. You'll be able to buy and rent movies and TV episodes from this app, as well as find your purchased content. Open the Google Play Music app to listen to music.
You can listen to recommended stations as well as music in your library. You cannot purchase music from the Android TV; you'll need to make music purchases on your computer or phone.
Open the Play Store app to find new apps and games. This will open the Google Play Store, where you can find new streaming apps and games that you can play with your remote. Many apps are free, but some will require payment. Kodi is an open-source video streaming app that is popular with Android TV users. You can download Kodi from the Google Play Store, if it's not already installed. Warning: If you are using 3rd-party add-ons with Kodi, make sure you protect yourself by using a VPN.
Unfortunately, no, you can't. However, you can get apps like Kodi and Mobdro. I've found Mobdro to work best for local channels.
