Or did you see any way for it to be improved. We have found that when we run this script on Windows 7 the script does run and does install the software but unlike Windows XP it does not wait for the script to complete before letting the user log on. If anyone does get it working this way I would love to see a simplified guide!
Chris, I wonder, did you set the group policy setting that specified the wait to install for login? I followed this and it worked beautifully. However, I'm not having so much luck adapting it to do installs of Visio and Project Anyone know how to do this? Not sure if it was just me, I did this an now I've realised that the Proofing tools where not installed by default. Epic awesomeness! I'm not familiar with setting up a KMS host and don't really have time to research it at this moment.
Yes, this will remove previous installations if you follow the directions. When you are going through step 3 above the section for this is Remove previous installations. The Office SP1 very likely is correctly installed, but if you don't have the current revision on the WSUS server, then you'll get the very same false positives from the non-English proofing tools that were originally observed last year. Before talking to you I was considering just approving all the Office SP1 updates, but I wasn't sure what effect it would have to approve an update that WSUS says the client needs even though I know they don't.
I don't have a single Office install out there that wasn't deployed with SP1 included. Something on those clients is not yet updated to SP1, and you should approve the update and let it be updated. On the off chance you're right and nothing needs the update, it will fail installation and you'll be vindicated. But to be frank -- in all of the cases where I've been engaged in an "I don't believe what the WUAgent has reported" conversation -- the WUAgent has been right.
Fair enough. If it's a quick update I don't mind pushing it out at any time, but of course without knowing what piece is missing the update it would be difficult to predict the time required even if it can update per component.
I'm finally getting around to trying this out further. I created a "computer group" on the WSUS server and moved a test machine in to it. I then approved the Office SP1 update for that group. Strangely the client keeps saying "Windows is up to date" even though WSUS reports that the approval is set to "install" and the status is "not installed".
I rebooted the client and even waited several days. It never installs it. I looked at the WindowsUpdate. It seems like the client isn't detecting the update as availabe. As if I didn't approve it even though I did. Any thoughts? Have yyou confirmed that the WSUS server has downloaded all required files? Thanks for your patience on this. I recently changed this deciding to go with server-side targeting. The value of this GPO setting is now "disabled" so it doesn't get the value being pushed from a site-wide GPO that's in place I found it was getting this setting.
Also, I just found this in the WSUS deployment guide: " Computer groups cannot be created on a replica serveror on a remote administration console". I believe I had in fact used a remote administration console so I decided to redo the groups on the server itself. I moved the clients to "unassigned", deleted the groups, recreated them, then moved the clients back where I wanted them. Before it was showing the target group assigned from the site-wide GPO I mentioned.
At this point I'm not seeing a target group showing up in the log. Also, I just found this in the WSUS deployment guide: "Computer groups cannot be created on a replica serveror on a remote administration console". That statement is misworded. The correct statement would be: "Computer groups cannot be created on a replica server. Computer groups can be created from a remote console connected to the upstream server -- I do it all the time.
After creation on the upstream server, they are replicated during server synchronization to the replica server. You stated that you set the policy to Disabled.. No replica servers. The only other server was the WSUS server that was used prior. That server is no longer involved. Office Office Exchange Server. Not an IT pro? Choose how to manage updates to Microsoft Apps.
